Message from the
Australian Consul-General

One of the many things Australia and Hong
Kong have in common is community spirit.
It can be expressed in different forms but

most often it derives from a collective of
volunteers willing to draw on their diverse professional and
personal experience to assist those who are less fortunate or in
need. Rotarians globally have been exemplars of community service.

Whether one of the 30,000 Rotary volunteers in Australia or those
in Hong Kong participating in this 61 District Conference, you also
st
play an important role supporting international fellowship and
cultural understanding through student scholarships and exchange
programs.

As a Rotary Youth Exchange Student many years ago, I can
personally attest to the profound influence your commitment to
“service above self” can have on individuals and on communities.

I wish you all the best for this conference, and I would like to
express my appreciation for Rotary’s ongoing work to build a better
world.
